Tutoring Programs
Two Days To Success
In my program, students work on phonemic awareness, structured-reading, spelling skills, crucial language skills, writing, vocabulary, reading fluency, and comprehension. The structure of the program includes 1 hour sessions, two times a week, based on the following research:
-
According to the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators Site, the most common instructional pattern to be employed by Orton-Gillingham teachers is a 1:1 model. This includes at least two independent sessions per week.
-
According to The International Dyslexia Association (IDA), “With proper remediation and needed accommodations, students with dyslexia can go on to be very successful students in colleges and universities, as well as in professional and adult life. “
My program and method is to ensure that students continue to make progress and lessen the reading gap at a faster rate. This should also help to increase your child’s self-esteem and confidence both at home and at school, as well as strengthen their executive functioning memory with this multi-sensory approach which includes drill and repetition.
Reward-Based Learning Programs
-
Points system – kids earn points for activities like reading and skills practice. They are encouraged to save their points to earn prizes like composite mini hockey sticks, and other fun rewards. This not only motivates students but teaches them the life skill of saving.
-
KB33 Hat Trick Reading – read three books and earn a cap. (Download form here.)
-
Stick to Your Education – earn 25,000 points or 3 A’s on your report card and get a mini composite hockey stick.
